Spiritus Gladius

Why name my blog Spiritus Gladius? Aaron sent me a picture the other day of the stained glass from the sanctuary at Riverview. The glass containing the name of the Apostle Paul has a picture of a Bible, and a Sword, and the words "Spiritus Gladius". The Sword of the Spirit."

I instantly knew this would be the name of my blog. I love the Bible, and I am so thankful Riverview has placed a high priority on Bible teaching in my ministry. The other Pastors, ministers, and lay leaders do such a great job in their calling here that I am free to STUDY, PRAY, PREACH THE WORD!!!

Right now it is Monday Morning, and I am excited to begin studying for next Sunday's message. I feel like a detective on a new case looking for clues. I sometimes imagine myself as an explorer turning over every rock in the scriptures, looking behind every leaf, trying to take in every nuance of the passage. However, just like every Monday, not only am I excited, I am also fearful. I feel completely empty. I am convinced if God does not fill me up, and illumine my mind to understand the TRUTH of His Word. Next Sunday I will be like a rain cloud with no rain. (Jude 1:12) All promise, and no production.

So please - keep me in your prayers. If you were going in for heart surgery, would you pray for your Doctor? You bet. The truth is - if I were a heart surgeon it would be less important than my job now. For if I were a heart surgeon, and I messed up, you might die (temporal), but if I twist the gospel, or mis-interpret scripture...this has an eternal impact.

Pray that God will always guide me to 'rightly divide the Word of truth.' 2 Timothy 2:15
